Nexus Conference

Welcome! The Nexus student conference is an annual event where ISGP brings together scholars from across UBC who are leading exciting and innovative work. The conference supports interdisciplinary scholarship by bridging the gaps between different disciplines, methodologies, research approaches, and forms of advocacy/activism. By challenging the traditional boundaries of knowledge-sharing, Nexus reimagines what an academic conference could be.

We invite scholars from all stages, programs, and fields of study to join us in moving scholarship forward in new and interdisciplinary ways.

What is public scholarship?

What we do in academia has an impact, but when that impact affects audiences beyond the university, we must ask ourselves how we can best serve the communities that we are affecting. Public scholarship aims to bridge the gap between scholarly work with a commitment to public engagement and practice.

Nexus 2025

In a world where academia often feels disconnected from the communities it seeks to serve, we ask: How can we put community needs at the forefront of what we do in academia? By embracing public scholarship, researchers can make their work more accessible, actionable, and impactful beyond the confines of the university. This conference will feature workshops, presentations, and discussions that highlight the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, equipping scholars with the tools to engage directly with the public and drive meaningful change in society. Together, we can bridge the gap between theory and practice, and ensure that scholarship is a force for positive, inclusive action.
